How You Can Help...

Volunteer

This program is all about  you helping the kids in the village to improve their English and exposing them to a new culture.

While there we ask that you...

  • Teach/assist English classes: The children in the village receive only basic education, as a result Andar teaches extra-curricular classes. Depending on your experience we ask you assist or teach these classes.
  • Play and socialise with the kids: This goes a long way in helping the kids learn English away from a more structured class. It's also a fantastic way to get to know the kids and have fun.
  • Lead conversation classes: Many parents in the village are also keen to learn English and need help.
  • Be creative and dynamic: Sometimes easier said than done, but kids who are used to more traditional learning, revel in new and exciting teaching methods.
  • Try to be flexible and understanding: New environments can always be tricky, but please try to adapt and understand you're a  guest in the village.

Any teaching qualifications or previous experience are highly valued, but above all, it's important to have a positive attitude and willingness to care for the well-being of the children.

Fees

Unfortunately as we are a small non-profit, we cannot offer free accommodation or food and ask that you make a contribution of IDR 200,000 (£11/$13.50/€13) per night.

Included in the fee...

  • Use of a private room with electricty and a fan.
  • Three home-cooked meals a day.
  • Fruit, water and coffee throughout the day.
  • Any activities you wish to take part in (fishing, snorkelling, trips to local markets etc.).
  • Transport to and from the ferry port and in and around the surrounding area.

The programme requires a minimum commitment of 3 nights but a longer stay is beneficial, especially for the children.

How to Get There

Lombok is the Indonesian island next to Bali and can be reached by plane or by ferry. The village is a half an hour scooter ride from Lembar harbour. Once you have made your way to the harbour, Andar will meet you and take you to the village. He will be in contact throughout the journey so there is no need to worry about being left stranded!
